Jared Ice, Bass-Baritone

I’m a 2014, 2016, and 2018 winner of the International Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg Singing Competition. My European debut as Holofernes in Judith at the Staatstheater Braunschweig was praised by the Märkische Allgemeine as being sung with a “brilliant, robust baritone.” My debut as Scarpia in Tosca was praised by the Märkische Allgemeine as being a “captivating mixture of powerful machismo and a multi-faceted voice that ranged from cynicism to seducing curiosity.”

The Tagesspiegel reported “Dressed in black, with a riding whip in his hand, he immediately makes it clear who the boss is. And yet he doesn't act as abysmally evil as Iago, but rather somewhere deep inside, also as a seducer and a vulnerable person.” In a recent opera gala the Märkische Allgemeine gave the critique “Jared Ice’s wrathful Iago swept across the stage in a way that penetrated to the core.”

In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to perform classic operatic roles such as The Father in Hänsel und Gretel, Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur, Escamillo in Carmen, Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni, and Schaunard in La Bohème. I equally enjoy being involved in modern projects as well. In Germany I’ve had the opportunity to do three world-premier pieces, Die Macht des Gesanges and Epimetheus from Siegfried Matthus, and A Bad Man’s Life from Frank Matthus. I am also commonly involved in projects outside of the opera world. From Cabaret Nights at Don’t Tell Mama in New York to the role of Siegfried in the country western musical Das Barbecü in South Carolina.
